Jadeite – The Stone of Harmony and Balance
Jadeite or Nephrite? This is a question often asked by crystal healing enthusiasts. Both are types of jade – a term used by the Chinese to denote two different stones with similar characteristics. In the mid-19th century, French mineralogist Alexis Damour discovered that the two were indeed distinct. Jadeite and nephrite have very similar physical features, making them hard to distinguish for non-professionals.
The history of jadeite is as ancient as the world itself. Chinese artisans have been crafting items from jade for over five thousand years. As craftsmanship evolved, masters found ways to enhance the stone’s appearance, color, luster and stability.
After undergoing various transformations, jadeite is classified into three main types – Type A, Type B, and Type C.
Type A Jadeite – Crystals of this type are treated with wax. The process involves immersing clean jadeite in water and then in molten wax. The wax coating fills surface irregularities, giving it a smooth and glossy finish.
Type B Jadeite – For this variant, jadeite is treated with hydrochloric or sulfuric acid, which removes oxidation stains. It is then impregnated with wax or clear resin to make it glossy and smooth.
Type C Jadeite – This type includes the treatment of Type B but with the addition of a desired color.
Mystical and Healing Properties
Jadeite has been revered in Chinese culture and medicine for thousands of years. It is often chosen as a gift for anniversaries, weddings, and birthdays.
For those interested in alternative healing methods, jadeite carries healing energy. It has a calming charge capable of cleansing your energy field. This is why the crystal is associated with purification and spirituality. Unlike other healing stones, it does not create a strong energy field - it gently balances it. According to healers, jadeite communicates "Love and accept yourself." Jadeite is extremely popular in meditation and feng shui as the stone of harmony and balance. In ancient art, it is used in various items to invite new friends and prosperity into your home. One of the reasons it is so widespread in feng shui is that its homeland is China.
